James Watson and Francis Crick wrote an essay
on the discovery of DNA, throughout the essay they thought rhetorically about
their audience and how to deliver their message. Wayne Booth analyzed Watson
and Crick’s use of rhetoric and showed how their understanding of rhetorical
situation, their audience, and the stakes that were involved in making their
claim. That had a great deal to do with how that claim was received, which lead
them to win the Nobel Prize.
